Hide to Reveal
There’s a paradox in street photography: sometimes the best way to show more… is to hide something.
In this frame, the subject’s face disappears completely behind a bag. At first glance, it feels like an obstruction. But that “mistake” is actually the picture. The absence of the face shifts everything. Now you’re not looking at a person, you’re reading a gesture, a shape, a tension between bodies, objects, and space.
This is where things get interesting.
Most photographers are obsessed with clarity. Face, eyes, expression. All visible. All explained. But the street doesn’t always give you clean answers. And honestly, it shouldn’t.
Here’s the tip:
Don’t avoid obstruction. Use it.
